Shoots & Roots is a hydroponic, green wall in the entrance space of 3Space in Bermondsey. 15 hydroponic gullies are mounted horizontally, spanning across four of the five the windows. As the windows move from left to right, increasing distance is left between the gullies along with decreasing mounting points in the gullies; this allows for an increased space for large plants to be grown.

Shoots & Roots acts as an on going research structure. As this window is north facing and no artificial light has been installed there is a limitation as to what plants can be grown. In the first year different edible crops were explored including: lettuce, pak choi, chard, spinach, corn salad and miner’s lettuce. Currently Shoots & Roots has lain empty over the winter but will be planted with trailing plants for year two.
