Salad Bar is a vertical, aquaponic system at the entrance of Greenlab, designed as an example of an urban farming system that can be fitted into a small space. The system itself is used during talks and workshops run at Greenlab.
The system is designed to to grow cut and come again leafy vegetables using minimal artificial lighting. Therefore the main crop planted in the system is perpetual spinach which is a variety of chard, able to grow through the winter months.
Salad Bar is stocked with 16 guppies, 4 males, 12 females, in a 100 litre tank. Guppies are perfect fish for small scale aquaponic systems as correct stocking levels can be achieved even in a small tank.
Salad Bar is an open design project and once completed the designs and plans will be shared online via a free to access video tutorial.
