THE URBAN RESEARCHER

3 month research project as a black soldier fly farmer, focusing on production of larvae and breading of flies. The diagram below details their production cycle; my research was solely focused on the first 2 stages in the diagram.

Entocycle’s aim is to developing the world’s most efficient and sustainable way to produce protein. Black Soldier Fly larvae are high in protein and essential amino acids. Fed on the spent grain from local breweries and raised in modular feeding chambers, their insect protein is 9000x more land efficient than soya, whilst providing a comparable nutritional value.

Nutrition information of black soldier fly larvae per 100g:
Carbohydrates 23g
Calcium 5g
Protein 45g
